A rig full of 80 men and 1 woman, surrounded by nothing but ocean. Well, not nothing. A rig full of experts is no match for the monster living below. They didn’t mean to disturb an ancient and dangerous monster. But once they do, they quickly realize they may have inadvertently doomed their crew to a deadly fate. This is my first Paul Cooley book and I was not disappointed. It started out slow, building up the suspense. Then it took me on a terrifying ride.  The horror side of it reminded me of The Thing, while the comradery of the crew reminded me of The Abyss.

A horror story like this needs a voice, and that’s what Paul Cooley has found in Fireside Audio and Joe Hempel. Joe did an amazing job narrating this book. His timing, pitch, pace, and tone were perfect. And his characterizations were spot on. This book is written from several point of views, and Joe transitioned between all of them smoothly and effortlessly. He really brought the book to life. Thank you to Fireside Audio for gifting me this fast paced and intense audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
