“Aren’t we all a little crazy?’’

Wow! If you’re a fan of Tarryn Fisher and Colleen Hoover, this one is right up your ally! What an incredible journey into the human mind! Laura Rossi gives us story filled with the complexities of the human mind, mental disorders, and trauma. Secrets, distrust, death, intrigue, murder, this book has everything that thriller novel lovers want. Dr. Aria De Luca is a psychiatrist and consultant for the police. She’s just as complex as the mystery she’s aching to solve. Max is such an enigmatic character, casting his domineering shadow over Dr. Aria’s life. You’ll hate him yet be awed with how Laura Rossi wrote his character. I love Mattias Morgan’s character and the intrigue he brought to the story. And Ivy. Oh, Ivy. I can’t go into any more details; you just have to experience this edge of your seat, thought provoking, psychological thriller all for yourself. I just have one question before you dive in: “Who do you think you are?”

“Every person in here has a story. Some have multiple stories, depending on the day. At times, it’s hard to tell what is true and what is just the patient’s imagination, but every story, every lie means something. They are built by our minds for a reason.”

Marina Barrett was excellent! They couldn’t have picked a better narrator for this book. This is such a powerful and riveting novel, and she expertly guided us through it. I was enthralled and didn’t want to stop listening (ugh work). I highly recommend the audiobook version to enhance your experience of Black Canvas.

“When the suffering, the trauma, is too much to bear, our minds try to save us from the despair and the pain. It’s like turning down a system, going into safe mode, where only essential, vital operations are needed: breathe, blink, swallow, sit down, stand. No interaction with anyone, no thinking back either… Just emptiness and examining the world with cold, unemotional eyes.”

Thank you to Pink Flamingo Productions and Audiobook Obsession for gifting me this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

“Not all stories are told with words. If you listen close enough, silence can be just as revealing. It’s not what we say but what we don’t say that hurts us the most.”

5 Mind-F stars!
