I’ve followed the Callahan’s since the first book. I have to say, I didn’t care for the direction this one took but I didn’t hate it either. I still give it 3.5 to 4 stars because the ride was insane! J.J. McAvoy really knows how to get your blood pressure up! Just when you think you know what game is being played – BANG! You find out how wrong you were. I have to say, I despise Calliope. Which is probably the point. I think she belittles Ethan and treats him terribly. It’s clear she has 0 respect for him. I absolutely adore Gigi and the relationship Ethan has with her. There was a death in the book that I don’t think needed to happen. I mean, I get why it did. And it’s the mafia, so that death is probably true to form. But I don’t think this person deserved it. Also, it must be said that this book unfortunately contained a slew of typos and grammatical errors. That is something that should have been caught before the release. I give it 3.5-4 stars because the book was well written and the suspense was crazy good. The twist and turns were insane. But as a Callahan family fan [and fan of Ruthless People series and Children of Vice series) this story line is a bit disappointing.
