In Dark Heart, Ella James builds up the characters with impeccable detail. She takes you on a journey of 2 young people growing and evolving. She builds their chemistry with a heart pounding slow burn. It was intoxicating.  Elise O’Hara and Luca Galante’s love started innocently. Elise lives a privileged life but it isn’t an easy one. She is optimistic, sensitive and caring, finding strength through her family issues. Luca lives a hard life. He’s a beautiful protector who’s loyal, thoughtful and loves hard. They couldn’t be more different in their life and upbringing. But they find purpose and reason in each other arms. They find everything they never knew they needed. Their love was pure and true. But harsh realities and unfortunate circumstances turned their love into something dark and forbidden. The plot was full of tension, suspense, drama, lust, tragedy, and secrets. And of course, it ends with a cliffhanger that made me feel like I was dying.

In Twisted Fate, Ella James shows you how true love can transcend time and circumstance. Luca and Elise’s love couldn’t be more forbidden. She is a DA and he is a mafia don. Tragedy and circumstance ripped them apart and left them broken. Elise chased her dreams and excelled in her career while Luca fell victim to circumstance and did what he had to in order to survive. Both just living day by day as half a person. But life has a way of bringing these 2 back into each other’s lives despite the years apart. Their polar opposite lives draw a clear line in the sand. They can’t cross that line and expect to go back to the lives they made. But they can no longer see their lives for what it is. All they can see is each other. The angst in this book will make your heart stop. I swear I was having a panic attack in some parts. The plot in this 2^nd half was more intense, more suspenseful, more tragic, more everything. An epic conclusion to a love story for the ages.

This duet is a dark forbidden mafia romance with heartbreakingly epic suspense, secrets and drama. It pushes you to your limits and makes your heart stop. The Dark Heart Duet is a magical, tragic and captivating romance. It’s raw, torturing and real. Ella James broke my heart into a million pieces and then put it back together again. The way she wrote the characters, plot and love was so complex, poetic, tender, and all-consuming. Ella brilliantly draws you into her compelling, heart-throbbing and star-crossed lovers world. Yes, Ella James, THIS is how you write a tragedy.

The narration was beyond perfect. Jason Clarke and Carly Robins ARE Luca and Elise. Their voices and transitions were distinct enough to differentiate between the characters. The pacing, expressions and flow were exemplary. Jason and Carly make it easy to develop an emotional connection to the characters and story. Their experience and skillset really shined through in this story. The narrators, author, and publisher worked perfectly together to make a flawless and magical listening experience. I highly recommend the audio version of this book as it enhancing the experience.
