I was lucky enough to receive this audiobook ARC [from Piece of Cake Audiobooks} in exchange for an honest review.
Dean Judson and his younger siblings bought Juniper Ridge, a former cult compound, and turn it into a self-contained community. The community will be recorded for a reality TV show in sort of a “Truman Show” or Big Brother way. One of the hopes is that people in the self-contained community can find hope and love. Dean is the CEO of this project and a real control freak. Vanessa Vincent is looking for a job and a fresh start. She’s a quirky finance guru who excels at what she does and is quickly hired as the new CFO of Juniper Ridge. Dean and Vanessa have an immediate attraction to each other. Neither can hide their feelings for long. Unfortunately for Vanessa and the Judson’s, Juniper Ridge is plagued by crazy letter and emails, cruel gifts, hacked systems, and stalking. Their trust in each other is tested as the threats and harassment heighten. Can these two lovers work past the chaos to build on their connection and chemistry? Is Juniper Ridge doomed before it even gets off the ground?
This is my first book by Tawna Fenske but it definitely won’t be the last. I loved the relationship the Judson siblings have with each other. They all have so much love and respect for each other. Dean is controlling, but not in a mean way. He likes order and goes out of his way to protect his family and the project. Vanessa is strong, smart, and quirky. She fits right in with the siblings. I love the quirky comedic randomness in this story. The sex scenes are intimate and passionate. And beyond that, Dean and Vanessa have a real connection with each other and respect for each other. Beautiful scenery, serene cabins, and a water slide make Juniper Ridge a character in itself. The dialog was real and never felt forced. The story flowed effortlessly. This was a great start to this new series. I look forward to seeing how Juniper Ridge grows.
Sebastian York and Emma Wilder are two of my favorite narrators. They did a fantastic job. Their pitch, tone, comedic timing, and pace brought the story to life. They clearly had so much fun recording this audiobook. Sebastian embodied the protective older brother character that is Dean. Emma does a great male voice as well. She excelled in embracing Vanessa’s quirky and clumsy character. They were both exceeded my expectations.
4 Fun Stars!
