Darkness Dawns by Dianne Duvall — 1st in the ‘Immortal Guardians’ series
BLURB:
In this dazzling, sensual novel, Dianne Duvall beckons readers into a world of vampires, immortals, and humans with extraordinary gifts…where passion can last forever, if you’re willing to pay the price…
Once, Sarah Bingham’s biggest challenge was making her students pay attention in class. Now, after rescuing a wounded stranger, she’s landed in the middle of a battle between corrupt vampires and powerful immortals who also need blood to survive. Roland Warbrook is the most compelling man Sarah has ever laid hands on. But his desire for her is mingled with a hunger he can barely control…
In his nine centuries of immortal existence, no woman has tempted Roland as much as Sarah. But asking her to love him is impossible—when it means forfeiting the world she’s always known, and the life he would do anything to protect.
REVIEW:
Aside from the main character driving a Prius, I really loved this immortal/vampire world! There wasn’t a dark and mysterious vibe that is the norm in vampire novels. Our guy Roland is environmentally conscious, grows organic vegetables, and only drinks the blood of evil people like rapists, pedophiles, and murderers. Oh, and he uses the remains of the dead bad guys as compost for his vegetable garden. This all sounds funny, but it honestly made for a very loveable character. His sweet side was oh so endearing. As an introvert with anxiety, I love how anti-social Roland is. And his sexy side makes your toes curl! Roland and Sarah’s chemistry is off the charts hot! They’re so drawn to each other. Roland comes out of his turtle shell for Sarah. Who by the way, is very strong and heroic. She’s a school teacher who loves to garden. Even being thrown into a scary unknown paranormal world, she remains stoic and caring. The secondary characters are amazing as well and I can’t wait to read their stories! I hope their as action packed, erotic, and enthralling as this one. I’ve officially added Dianne Duvall to my list of favorite vampire/immortal writers.
“I’m not antisocial. I just want to be left alone.” ~ Roland
“Beautiful, brave and possessed of violent tendencies. I like her.”
“Marcus is the real deal. He sees dead people and it is neither cool nor comfortable.”
