This book starts at the end of the 70’s, and you are introduced to Emilia Bellini and Luca Rossini. They are promised to each other and come from two prominent mafia families.
Emilia is the oldest daughter of the Bellini family. Although promised to Luca, her father agrees to offer them monetary compensation in order to release her from the agreement. On her wedding day, Luca, takes matters into his own hands, and does the unspeakable.
While Emilia struggles with her grief, she is forced into a relationship with Luca. Though, Emilia and her family have a plan of revenge of their own, it will be up to Emilia to carry it out. Emilia is a very strong willed woman and Luca is a domineering drug addict. I didn’t think that it was possible for her to forgive all of the things that Luca did to her and her family.
While she does everything in her power to fuel her hatred, her feelings start to turn. When the hate is no longer there, their passion and love start to develop. This is in no way a traditional love story. These characters have to fight for everything they get. You WILL hate, hate some more, start to like, and eventually fall in love with Luca Rossini. He works for Emilia’s heart and her love.
I devoured this book in a few hours. Ms. Cates, develops her characters, and keeps the story moving. You will fall for some of the supporting characters as well. This book is a definite 4.5 star read!
