The Morganville Vampires [series] by Rachel Caine

mv2

There are 16 books in the Morganville Vampires series, of which I’ve only read the first 8 books so far.  For me, this is one of those series that are a “comfort” series for me.  The books are short and aren’t the best books I’ve ever read.  But there’s something about the story and about the main character Claire Danvers that draws me in.  She’s very quirky and weird.  She’s also very young and immature.  She’s a prodigy kid who was only 16 when she became a freshman in college.  I don’t like that she’s a rather wimpy sort of character that always needs rescuing.  Though by book 8 she has gained a lot of maturity, strength and courage.  Rachel Caine is GREAT at what she does, especially writing the intense horror scenes.  I like how Caine incorporates traditional vampire lore into the series.  She built a great world that I’d be happy to live in.

Glass Houses Publisher’s Summary:  Morganville, Texas, is a small college town filled with quirky characters. But when the sun goes down, the bad come out. Because in Morganville, there is an evil that lurks in the darkest shadows—one that will spill out into the bright light of day.  Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation. The popular girls never let her forget just where she ranks on the school’s social scene: somewhere less than zero. And Claire really doesn’t have the right connections—to the undead who run the town. When Claire heads off campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don’t show many signs of life. But they’ll have Claire’s back when the town’s deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood.

“Run first,’ Shane said. ‘Mourn later.’ It was the perfect motto for Morganville.”
