Fixed On You by Laurelin Paige (book 1 in the Fixed series)
To me, and apparently to a lot of other readers who wrote reviews on Fixed On You, this book felt very “Fifty Shades”-ish. But the business was a night club and there was no inner goddess. That being said, I do feel like it lost some of that 50-ish feeling feel halfway through the book. Which is great. But because it started out that way, I found I couldn’t get invested in the plot of the book. Though, there wasn’t really any “plot” per say. The sex scenes were great, which did redeem the fact that there was no plot. I think there was a decent story line, but feel it was approached/written poorly. And for the love of romance novels everywhere, please stop saying over and over and over again how wet your core is. I mean, yes, that is sexy in romance and erotica. But after the 10th time it’s said it gets annoying. By the 20th time I was nearly dead from how many times I’d cringed. And speaking of annoying, I didn’t see Alayna as a heroine I could get behind. She was and immature, whiny, horny, stalker with a repetitive inner dialogue. Hudson is hot, but he’s a heartless sociopath. The sociopath and controlling side of him actually meshes well Alayna’s immature and obsessive-stalker side. This book apparently ends a cliffhanger, but there’s nothing about the ending that makes me want to keep reading. There was no connection between Alayna and Hudson. There’s only once when they actually spend time talking and getting to know other. I’m sure that time together was very helpful in how they grew feelings towards each other. But the scene wasn’t delved into enough to make me as a reader feel their connection. I don’t know what else to say… I just didn’t feel it. If you like a book with lots of sex and no real plot, then this book is for you. As for myself, I won’t be continuing with this series.
Synopsis:
Stalking and restraining orders are a thing of Alayna Wither’s past. With her MBA newly in hand, she has her future figured out –move up at the nightclub she works at and stay away from any guy who might trigger her obsessive love disorder. A perfect plan. But what Alayna didn’t figure on is Hudson Pierce, the new owner of the nightclub. He’s smart, rich, and gorgeous –the kind of guy Alayna knows to stay away from if she wants to keep her past tendencies in check. Except, Hudson’s fixed his sights on her. He wants her in his bed and makes no secret of it. Avoiding him isn’t an option after he offers a business proposition she can’t turn down and she’s drawn further into his universe, unable to resist his gravitational pull. When she learns Hudson has a dark history of his own, she realizes too late that she’s fallen for the worst man she could possibly get involved with. Or maybe their less than ideal pasts give them an opportunity to heal each other and finally find the love their lives have been missing.
