Paradox! Paradox!

Lightning by Dean Koontz

A frightening and intense read that I didn’t want to end! There’s suspense, danger, love, heart-warming moments, cleverness, surprises, time travel, and a strong female character. How could you not love this book?! The huge amounts of imagination in this book make for a fantastically plotted novel! Some of the reviews I’ve read show that a lot of people didn’t like the way the author interrupted scenes by splitting them up. I personally enjoyed this. It kept it more suspenseful. It gave me an “Omg what’s going to happen?!!” type of feeling. Laura Shane and Daniel = Perfection! There’s was a great love story more realistic than what is normally found in Syfy books. The characters are so rich and intriguing. I don’t want to give away too much on the story or it would ruin it. I’ll say that I thought that ending was very realistic and more profound than what is found in most books these days. This is definitely one for my pile to read again when I’m in a reading slump. It’s got every genre you need in a book – science fiction, romance, espionage, time travel, suspense, and thriller.

“But once an idea for a novel seizes a writer…well, it’s like an inner fire that at first warms you and makes you feel good but then begins to eat you alive, burn you up from within. You can’t just walk away from the fire; it keeps burning. The only way to put it out is to write the book.”

Synopsis:

In the midst of a raging blizzard, lightning struck on the night Laura Shane was born. And a mysterious blond-haired stranger showed up just in time to save her from dying. Years later, in the wake of another storm, Laura will be saved again. For someone is watching over her. But just as lightning illuminates, darkness always follows close behind.

“That was the splendid thing about life: Though it was cruel, it was also mysterious, filled with wonder and surprise; sometimes the surprises were so amazing that they qualified as miraculous, and by witnessing those miracles, a despondent person could discover a reason to live, a cynic could obtain unexpected relief from ennui, and a profoundly wounded boy could find the will to heal himself and medicine for melancholy.”
