Loved her Fallen series… but not this one

Teardrop by Lauren Kate – 1st book in the Teardrop Duet

I’m still not sure about this one. I give it 3 stars. I thought it was supposed to be this great epic love story between Eureka and Ander, but the love factor was just sort of blah. I totally get that Ander was already in love with Eureka and why. But I think Eureka’s end of that love story could’ve been told better in that it should’ve actually grown better. Their characters didn’t really spend enough time together for there to be a huge declaration of love. I think the premise of the story was good, but it could’ve been told better. I’m hoping that the next book will get better. I think with the premise of Atlantis you could do so much more with this series. The lost city of Atlantis has great mythology stories to it that could be used in the plot but wasn’t. The plot was too overshadowed by teenage angst and drama. In the next book, I hope that the mythology of Atlantis is put more into the series. I live in the New Orleans area not far from New Iberia so I really enjoyed the setting of this book.

“She liked the way this road smelled in the evenings, like rain falling on night-blooming jasmine. Locusts sang old songs in the darkness.”

Synopsis:

Never, ever cry…. Seventeen-year-old Eureka won’t let anyone close enough to feel her pain. After her mother was killed in a freak accident, the things she used to love hold no meaning. She wants to escape, but one thing holds her back: Ander, the boy who is everywhere she goes, whose turquoise eyes are like the ocean. And then Eureka uncovers an ancient tale of romance and heartbreak, about a girl who cried an entire continent into the sea. Suddenly her mother’s death and Ander’s appearance seem connected, and her life takes on dark undercurrents that don’t make sense. Can everything you love be washed away?
