The Haunted by Bentley Little

An innocent family abused by an evil entity. This book was dark, gritty, bleak and horrifying and such a great read! It has some really creepy moments that aren’t normally found in haunted house movies. I loved the bizarre history of the haunted house. There was so much excitement in this book and I couldn’t put it down! The ending was unexpected and not at all how I imagined it would end. It was a sad ending but great for the story.  If you don’t like stories of twisted and dark hauntings, then this book isn’t for you.  The family’s behavior becomes irrational, tense and lethargic.  There’s anger, angst, and uncomfortable moments.  I had goosebumps through the whole book.  I’ll definitely be reading more from Bentley Little!

“So why did she feel as if she wasn’t alone?”

“Because she wasn’t.”

Synopsis: The Perry family’s new house is perfect-except for the weird behavior of the neighbors, and that odd smell coming from a dark corner in the basement. Pity no one warned the family about the house. Now it’s too late. Because the darkness at the bottom of the basement stairs is rising.

“And in the background, behind everything he did or said or thought, like a low hum, was an unyielding sadness, an emotional blackness that threatened to bloom into depression should he pause to examine it.”

4.5 terrifying-bleak-engaging-but-wish-the-ending-was-different stars!
