If you want dragons that act like BDB characters…

Fury of Fire by Coreene Callahan – 1st in the “Dragonfury” series

Apparently, I had purchased the first 4 books in the Dragonfury series through an Audible sale and forgotten all about it.  So far I neither like nor dislike this series.  I’m neither connected nor disconnected to the characters/story.  It’s not a bad book by any means.  It’s definitely very sexy.  The dragons are actually sort of a dragon/vampire mix, which gets a bit weird for the storyline.  Instead of sucking blood, they suck a womans energy.  They are super strong, live a very long time, heal quickly, and can’t go out in the sun. But they aren’t vampires. Just normalish men who shift into dragon form.  There are no women dragons.  The men have sex with a human and that produces their dragon-baby-heir which always a boy. And it’s very common for the mother to die during childbirth.  I get it that books will have a lot of similarities when written in the paranormal world. But this book reminded me a lot of J. R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series.  For instance, instead of doggen (maid/butler) they have a fairy type person who acts just like doggen do. And they talk and act just like BDB. Even call their boots “shit kickers” and wear leathers, just like in BDB. Another reader called this book a “ripoff of the Black Dagger Brotherhood”. She wasn’t wrong, for sure. These dragons are basically vampires who just happen to turn into dragons but don’t drink blood. All that being said, I still find this book to be sexy and will continue reading the series. Or at least the next 3 books since I purchased them. I think the series and the author have potential. However, I suggest she starts a series that is more unique to her own style versus copying from BDB.
