Save a horse, ride a cowboy

As you all know, we NOLAnerds recently went to Readers on the River in Louisville Kentucky, where we got to spend 2 days with 20 authors. One of the nice things about these author events is that it introduces you to new authors. Sometimes even new genres.

Tiffany has been trying to get me to read Lorelei James’ “Rough Riders” series. I’ve been denying her because I just don’t like westerns. As it got closer to the event, I decided to read a book by each other. My local library had several of the Rough Riders books for audiobook download. I chose to rent/download “Rough, Raw and Ready”, which is the 5th book in the series. I typically don’t read books out of sequence, but the cover was hot and the synopsis promised a sexy menagerie with a girl and 2 bisexual cowboys. So I figured if I was going to read a western this might be a winner for me.

Synopsis: Torn between the love he has and the love he s always wanted. Rough Riders Series, Book5…. Chassie West Glanzer hasn’t been a stranger to drama and tragedy. A year of wedded bliss to sexy-as-sin cowboy Trevor Glanzer has brought her the happiness and contentment she never thought she’d find, and mellowed Trevor’s rodeo wanderlust. Then Trevor’s old roping partner ambles up the driveway and Chassie’s life changes drastically. Trevor never expected to see Edgard Mancuso again, after it became clear he couldn’t be the man Edgard needed. Now Edgard is back from Brazil to sort out their tangled past, and Trevor is plagued with feelings he thought he’d buried over three years ago. Although Trevor is hat-over-bootheels in love with his sweet, feisty wife, the sense his life is missing a piece has always gnawed at him. Chassie’s shock that Edgard and Trevor were once lovers turns to fear of losing her husband. Or worse, fear that Trevor will stay with her only out of a sense of duty. Yet as the three of them spend time together, the sins of the past blur and fade, leaving raw emotion and unbridled passion. Passion that could heal or cause irreparable damage to their future.

First, let me just say this book is NOT a western. Not at all. It is contemporary for sure, based around cowboys, rodeo life, farming, and ranch. I would label the genre as contemporary western romance, erotica and BDSM.

Most menage books are typically just about the sexual act itself. Which is totally fine, don’t get me wrong. But this book focuses on the emotions behind the characters and their decision to delve in to a 3-way relationship. Chassie and Trevor’s love is so unconventional and solid that, while hesitant and unsure at first, Chassie felt confident in experiencing a bisexual menage. She and Edgar were even able to open their hearts to each other and found a real connection with each other. The story ended beautiful with HEA’s all around.

And the sex scenes… Holy vaping Batman in a swim suit! This was one of the hottest books I’ve ever read. And the male on male parts were scorching. The lust, the love, the intimacy, the dirty bed talk – I don’t know how to describe it other than HAWT! Trevor is exactly the kind of strong and dominant man (most/some) women crave. I’m not talking about Christian Gray dominant. I mean a strong skilled cowboy who’s not afraid to get dirty on a farm. Then in the bedroom take control of his wife in the most sexy, rough, and raw way while still showing her true love and respect. He’s not stalking her or controlling her. He’s sexually dominant and loves Chassie deeply. He’s not an obsessive control freak.

This story is a sexy three way love story filled with undeniable passion and raw emotions. I just started the first book in the series “Long Hard Ride.” Which is where Trevor and Edgar are first introduced. It’s really nice to see how their love story began.

Warning: This book contains explicit language and sex, spanking, Male on male action, anal and rough sex, and m/m/f and m/f/m menage. It’s not for the faint of harp. Turn your a/c down, and read when the husband and kid(s) are asleep!
